About
Welcome to Taj Indian Restaurant, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Macon, GA, specifically at 5033 Brookhaven Rd Ste 300. This restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience that captures the essence of traditional Indian cuisine.
Taj Indian Restaurant stands out not only for its diverse menu, but also for its inviting atmosphere—casual yet quiet—making it ideal for families and group gatherings alike. Whether you're craving a hearty lunch or a relaxing dinner, this establishment has got you covered. With options for vegan diners, swift takeout, and even catering services, it effortlessly caters to a variety of tastes and needs.
One of the highlights of dining here is their impressive range of appetizers, such as Achar, a spicy Indian pickle, and Masala Papadam, delicately spiced lentil wafers that serve as a perfect start to your meal. For those seeking warmth and comfort, their soups like Mulligatawny—a traditional lentil soup flavored with curry—are a must-try. As a personal favorite, the Seafood Shorba combines both fish and shrimp in a lightly spiced broth, making it a delightful taste of the sea with an Indian twist.
The main courses are nothing short of spectacular. Customers rave about the goat curry, known for its mouthwatering flavors, alongside vegetarian dishes such as Chana Masala and Dhal. Each dish is crafted with care, ensuring that whether you're a meat lover or a vegetarian, your palate will be treated to an exquisite assortment of flavors. This sentiment is echoed by Andrew R., a loyal patron who commends the quality and authenticity of everything on the menu.
Of course, no meal is complete without dessert. Taj Indian Restaurant offers Gulab Jamun, soft doughy balls infused with cardamom and rose water, and Ras Malai, a delightful homemade Indian ice cream flavored with cardamom and saffron, which provide the perfect sweet note to end your experience on a high.
In addition to the culinary delights, the quality of service shines at Taj. As noted in various customer reviews, the friendly staff and engaging owner contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, where you're treated like family. “ This is a review based on multiple dining experiences here. I have to go to Macon once a week, so every time I do, this is my go-to choice. I go vegetarian in Lent, so this is an especially good option for eating out at that time, but their menu items with meat are also great. Seriously, everything I've gotten here, from the dhal to the chana masala to the melt-in-your-mouth delicious goat curry is spectacular. They're nice enough that the first time I indicated that on a scale of mild to India Spicy, I wanted India Spicy they verified to make sure. The food is delicious, the service is quick, and the staff are friendly. Honestly, if you like Indian food, everything on the menu is absolutely first rate, and the staff are absolutely lovely people. ”
“ Friendly staff, attractive decor, pleasant. Food was outstanding from appetizers to Main Course. Mango Lasse very tasty. Owner appeared to ask about our food, and engaged in friendly conversation about his history and family. Enjoyable experience overall. ”
“ Food and services excellent What a treat to find this restaurant- I also had a chai Macon hidden gem Looks like they have a lunch buffet also ”
“ This place is awesome me and my wife were looking for something for dinner and ran across this place absolutely great i would recommend this place to anyone who likes Indian ”
“ We stopped in and had a wonderful Chicken Makhni (Butter Chicken) and Garlic Naan. The Garlic Naan was an especial joy! Clearly the chef was my garlic loving brother by a garlic loving mother - just covered in the stuff! Yum yum! Service as good, when we walked in the door, they turned on the air. So that was nice. Now the bad. For the love of god, don't use the men's room. It'll make you have doubts about what the cleanliness of the kitchen might be. The thousand and one faces of god all turn away from that bathroom (and the hall leading to it ain't much better) in shame and despair. Seriously, it came with a complimentary mosquito that I had to fend off as I was doing my business. My wife says she also had to deal with either fruit flies or mosquitos in the ladies room. ”
“ Passing through Macon found this great Indian restauran. Food was deliciou. I had the lamb Korma and hubby had Lamb Tandoor. The lamb was tender and free of fat and gristle. Sauces were spot on. Glad the server asked how spicy we like it. Mine was mild and hubby asked for medium spice and he was sweating . Garlic Naan bread was an excellent addition. I imagine the lunch buffet is a big hit. ”
“ Sunday afternoon. Samosas and tandoori chicken, rice and naan. Nice crowd. Weekend buffet $13. ”
“ This is delicious Indian food. I had chicken tikka masala, chat samosa, and they were delicious ! The food was flavorful and is definitely authentic. I also had the garlic naan. The food here is amazing and the people are very friendly. ”
“ Another excellent meal at Taj. We always stop here when driving through Macon. The meal was as just as expected. ”
